Statement
In previous work I focused on utility and the transference of workwear/uniform references while drawing from the same techniques and pool of ideas presently used. The work as a whole is ambiguously temporal because I try to use colors and silhouettes that don't change with trends and neither use iconographic symbols. I don't want my work to be limited by age range, gender, or political affiliation. This exploration of materials is most apparent in my current work. Where I want to create/ manipulate textiles while pushing the references of systematic construction to produce garments that are visually appealing in addition to remaining mundane clothing.

Lucas Cadena originally from DFW, Texas currently living in Portland, Maine. Cadena is attending Maine College of Art & Design in pursuit of a BFA in Textile and Fashion Design with an expected graduation year of 2024. Currently they are employed at Loquat, a fashion brand with a focus on marginalized and LGBTQIA+ communities, working as a design and manufacturing assistant.
Cadena is a fibers artist with a focus in textile and garment design/construction. Their work is influenced by visual media, systems, nature, architecture, and personal experiences from growing up in Northern Texas. Their work is an exploration of surface manipulation, texture, visual perspective and garments. Cadena takes mundane, niche, and cartoonish references, and translates them into an idea for a garment/textile while obscuring the original inspirations in a classical construction and neutral color aesthetic.
